There are many types of fungal infections, but what they all have in common is that they are unpleasant. That and the fact that they are more common in people with a weakened immune system. This isn’t to say that people with a strong immune system don’t get these infections, but it happens less often and when it does, they pass without complications and severity.

That being said, here is what you can do to make sure your immune system has its troops ready for facing the ever so common threat of bacterial infections and their merciless spreading abilities.

Get Enough Sleep

When talking about things that are closely related to keeping your immune system at check, getting 7-8 hours of sleep is something that you should always strive for. Although it is normal for everyone to skip this rule once in a while, by making sure it’s not a regular thing, you’ll ensure that your cells are rejuvenated properly, among which the T-cells which are the main warriors against any infection.

Eat a Rainbow

Eating a well-balanced diet means including enough vitamins, protein, and minerals. Basically, it means eating a handful of differently colored foods on a daily basis. This way, you’ll ensure that your body gets all the building blocks it needs, but also the antioxidants which can prepare a healthy ground for fighting off bacteria. When one doesn’t get the required dose of daily calories, it can get pretty hard for the immune system to defend the body against infections. In such a case, the person will not only be prone to more infections but also in case of an infection, the healing process will longer.

Maintain Proper Hygiene

No matter how much you adhere to the above-mentioned tips if you don’t maintain proper hygiene, the chances that you’ll get a fungal infection of some kind are going to be pretty high. This is especially true for people who like to go to public swimming pools or maybe play some sport that involves having to walk barefoot on damp areas where a lot of other people walk barefoot as well. In order to avoid fungal infections, shower as fast as you can after sweating, wear comfortable clothes made of quality material, change into dry and clean clothes after sweating and then showering, and do not exchange clothes with other people.

Note: If you get a fungal infection of any kind, make sure you see a doctor so they can determine the severity and decide on proper treatment. Some of these infections require just patience and maybe applying some over-the-counter cream, while for others, you’ll need to take antibiotics.
